Friday, Jul 13 2007 - a little means a lot
View WILLLOSEIT's food & exercise for this day
hello friends,
today is my weigh-in day and i am glad to report a 2 pound loss bringing my 3 month total to 20.5 pounds. i am very happy with my success so far. i seem to have settled into a comfortable pattern of weight loss which is lose .5 one week and 2 pounds the next or numbers close to that. my average weight loss is about 1.25 pounds a week - a comfortable level i can live with.
tonight is my friend michael's birthday so we are going out to dinner to celebrate. i think where ever we wind up eating will be a challenge for me, but i am ready for it. since we have to go to long island for dinner, we will head out early to beat the traffic out to the hamptons. i'll use the extra time to spend with my mother and father. i wish i could spend more time with them, but my mother's dementia is very difficult to deal with sometimes. it's better for me to stay away a bit right now while i get me health and diet steadily moving in the right direction. she is such a trigger for me and i don't want the stress demons to rear their ugly heads again. putting myself first for now may seem selfish, but i have to do it.
i leave you with a short prose about how the little things in life should always matter; the smell of a rose, the coo of a newborn, the extra glass of water you drink each day are just a few of the little joys i want to celebrate! i hope you do too. have a wonderful day!
a little means a lot
a day in my life
may not always be
filled with excitement
and great jubilee
a day in my life
is often mundane
my wants are simple
my needs are plain
i wake up each morning
and face the new day
with hope for happiness
and a little time to play
i watch tv
i make a few calls
i sip my coffee
nothing much happens at all
i plan my meals
i walk a few miles
i do some errands
i share some smiles
but what i have learned
in this life that i've lead
that little things matter
for me to stay ahead
i don't need much
to feel great pride
a pat on the back
puts pep in my stride
and i look for miracles
in ordinary things
a bird on her perch
the song that she sings
a wink of the eye
a soft gentle touch
the nod of approval
you see it doesn't take much
to find pleasure in living
and joy in the day
bare feet in the grass
few more words to say
take life each day
and live it out loud
be bold, be sassy
be elegant, be proud
and look for that gem
in everything you see
and the little things that mean a lot
will be
and nothing else will matter
i promise
note to self: i need to work on this one....

You are definitely moving in the right direction and don't think of yourself as selfish in regards to your mother. It is important to take care of yourself.

Glad for the chance to re-read this.
 We went to Carrabas last Sunday evening on our "free" day. It's really close (10 minutes?). Too close?? Hope you're having a great Saturday.

Congratulations on your weight loss!
:rock1: I love your poem. We don't take time for the everyday little things, which is really what our lives are made up of. Taking care of my grandsons gives me a new appreciation for lots of things - just watching an ant in the driveway with them, watching them play while I swing on my hammock. It really doesn't get much better than that.
:) Hope you have a great day!

I thrilled for you on your weight loss! Have fun at your dinner with friends. What you wrote is true about the little things meaning a lot--the older I get the more I know it's true.
