i am down another pound this week and i am happy about that. i am losing weight at a good pace now and feel more motivated than i did when i started.
but i read phatgnat's blog this morning and it it "got me thinking" (a dangerous thing indeed)

. it is a short and bittersweet entry as she laments how difficult it is to do this day in and day out. i know we all feel that way sometimes because we put so much pressure on ourselves to never make a mistake. and when we do make a mistake, we take that mistake (more a stumble, really) and turn it into a capital offense. we barely give ourselves credit when we deserve it. we are so willing to beat ourselves up but never have time to pat ourselves on the back. and then we become fanatics about getting it right every minute of every day. no wonder so many people give up -- especially women. i just don't want to fall into that same trap again!
my advice to her (and i have to give it to myself all the time) was to find that happy medium between "obsessing over every bite" and "not conscious at all." To me, that is the only way to make this livable for a lifetime and isn't that what we all want?
so this morning, i decided to write a short mantra as a reminder to stay focused and not to obsess. I will place a copy of this mantra in several critical spots in my house; my nightstand, the refrigerator and near the bathroom scale to name a few. i pledge to repeat my mantra as often as i need to. it's one more tool in my toolbox -- because i am going to be under construction for the rest of my life.
this is not a diet, this is a lifestyle
i can do this without obsessing
i can make a mistake and start again
because the sun
will always rise on a new day
i will struggle from time to time
and that is ok.
but i will accept my successes too
i will go to bed each night
proud of what i did do
not focused on what i didn't
and i will strive to stay the course
and live a healthy and fit life
and believe in myself
because i am not perfect
but i will have perfect days
and my life is perfect for me
the photo: like me, my house is always under construction. this is some of the work we are doing now in my backyard; a new stone wall that will enclose a new deck.

Grace, you can always find me at either place. I have used both for two years and will not stray from CK. They heard us and gave us a chance with the old rate.
 My mantra is: to let go of perfectionism as it is the fastest way to fail. I am not perfect, and when I fall I pick myself up that same day with the next planned meal. No more starting over tomorrow. I start over that same day.
:y: too many starting over tomorrows can add up to a year very fast...so forgive, learn, and move on all in one day.

You make a very good point. I go from either obsessing, or having amnesia about what I'm doing.... Neither one is good. The first because we're bound to make mistakes, and the second because it's a total abandon to what we need to do. And we are definitely worth all it takes. I love the stone wall, BTW. I have a walkout off my kitchen door but it's all just concrete. I thought about a hot tub there, a lot...one of these days.

First of all, can I borrow your sealer for the weekend? I want to copy your mantra and seal it in plastic. That way it won't get dirty when I place it next to my dinner plate. I'll just tell my family that I am sort of saying "Grace".
Your stone mason is very good. It is going to be lovely to sit outside on your deck. As far as construction goes you are an expert......Congrats on your continuous weight lose.

I really have to stay obsessive about staying on plan every day. I was really in the groove of weight loss from August 06 through January 07...then I plateaued and am stuck in it...however, I think my body is now ready to lose again...and so the last couple weeks I've focused and now I can tell I'm starting to lose a bit again. I have to REALLY continue to obsess about every dang piece of food.
I dislike doing this, but it's what works. It does become habit after a while and I can let up...but soon I slide back into eating a little more of this and that...makes me angry I can't eat all I want like I could when I was younger.
GETTING OLD IS TIRESOME!! ;-)
