i am happy
to be where i am
in the place
with the person i love
getting healthy
taking my time
to get things right
this time

i am happy
to be working
from home
allowing me the time
to do things
just for me
and make choices
just for me
i make my own schedule
and put myself first
because i have
the time now
to fit it all in
and i do

i am thrilled
about the knowledge
i am gaining
the things i have learned
about myself
and why i eat
and why i gain weight
when someone else
might not
i know more about
eating right and
exercising just enough
to get this weight off
finally,
once and for all
without fear of
gaining it back
anymore

i am satisfied
with my progress
so far
i am just starting
but really
i have come a long way
and i can honestly say
i feel great
and motivated
more than i don’t.
in fact,
most of the time
i am eager to
keep going
and i never
look over my shoulder
to harp on
where i have been
because i know
i am not
going back there anymore

i feel confidence
when i wake up each day
not that i won’t
make a mistake
but that i can
and then
i will survive
and move on
and not make a mistake
guide the rest of my choices
or give me license
to walk backwards
instead of marching ahead
i just won’t let that happen
anymore

the light bulb
is finally staying on
after years
of starting
and stopping
and trying again
and again
to lose weight
and keep it off
once and for all
but i never did
because i never
got this far
into realizing
that i can make mistakes
i can falter
and it won’t mean
the end or
that everything is lost
it just means it happens
and we move on
and i do,

what took me so long
to get here
i couldn’t tell you
all that i know
is i am here
and i plan to stay here
and nothing will
dissuade me
or throw me off course
because i just
won’t let that happen
again
and so
i am living in the moment
and enjoying every minute
because for once
in my lifetime
i know
exactly where i am.
