The air is so thick todaynot just for me

to the stone quarry
ok, not really a quarry
but the stone store
sounds silly
i was sweating bullets
a fish out of water
me in my aqua capris
and sandals
surrounded by
construction workers
hot, sweaty
built to last

and work boots

the birth of our nation
a time
to celebrate
our freedom
our pride
in this country
despite the mess
we are in
i love this place so
when I was a child
4th of july was a fun day
filled with sparklers
flags
fireworks
picnics
watermelon
and parades
at night
the streets
in the neighborhood
lit up
with bottle rockets
and ash cans
exploding
a cacophony
of sound
music to my ears
but still I ran and...

i came up with this titlebefore i had a theme for today
because i liked the way it sounded
and knew inspiration would come my way
so an idea popped into my head
that i think youll all understand
its something that i have often done
and thats start things without a plan
leaping without looking
no instruction book for me
ill make it through whatever it is

we all have themthe demons
that creep into our thoughts
anytime
but especially at night
when every problem
every concern
seems worse than it is
the darkness
illuminating all our fears
demons
the ones that
take confidence
and stomp on it
until there is nothing left
but defeat and anger
and more fear
that you will never
succeed
no matter
how much you try

i have many
they have been with me
since the first time
i tried to lose weight
