this time of year
all the hustle and bustle
we just want to get through it
unscathed,
happy,
not completely off track
but enjoying life
just the same

keeping busy
doing all the things
we always do
this time of year
shopping,
wrapping,
writing cards,
baking,
reminiscing
about christmasses gone by
and the joy we remember
forgetting any dreams
that maybe didn't come true
because we survive
yes, that's what we do
and in the end
all we really want
are happy memories
of years gone by

it's good
it really is
for despite the madness
the meaning of the day
the purity of his love
always peaks through
that little manger
tucked beneath
the christmas tree
it's there
if not today
but in our hearts
and we remember
why we celebrate
and we sing songs
and make merry
and the spirit
of christmas
is alive

it's the good news
it's out there
