Friday, Jan 25 2013 - Stronger by the day
View YORKVILLE's food & exercise for this day
I wish I could be jumping up and down talking about all the weight I'm losing but alas, that is still not the case. I just can't seem to break under 178, but I do know I am on a downward trend. I have been doing a lot of strengthening activities lately so I am happy to focus on other wins.. like how much stronger I am getting!
I have never been someone with a strong core... nuh uh, I mean NEVER.
Anytime I have attempted core exercises like curls or leg raises I have done the absolute minimum amount of effort and given up right away because darn it... they are HARD.
But I have been pushing myself these past few months to first: not get scared away. To be ok with not being good at them and with the progress being slow. To be ok with the struggle but to not give up. And then second: to embrace them and eventually do them willingly
I haven't quite gotten all the way to the second stage
But it's been really great to see the (small but incremental) improvement. Being able to hold planks longer... lower my legs and hold them longer in leg raises, complete more sit ups with good form, etc. Slowly... I'm getting there!
There are a few areas that will help with the pounds that I need to commit to. Although on a raw vegan diet there wouldn't seem to be a lot of areas to go wrong in terms of food... THIS determined little vegan will ALWAYS find the bad stuff
I have been eating a LOT of raw chocolate... so so so so delicious.... but also so so so so not in my calorie budget. I need to kick my afternoon chocolate fix if I want to see the scale budging especially since the afternoon chocolate fix usually comes with a bag of dried mango... when combined that "healthy" afternoon snack totals over 500 calories.
I know! I know... I'm working on it!
Ok... so here I go, hopefully going to go for a run again tomorrow for the first time in 3 weeks now that I've gotten rid of my nasty cold and the weather is a little better.

love that you're a raw vegan! I'm vegan and we often make raw foods but I haven't been able to switch completely over. good for you!

I was having a hard time with needing a boost in the afternoon - for me it was a soy decaf mocha. Also not so great for my calorie total. What seems to be helping me out of that is to have my largest meals at sort of odd times: 10 am and 1 or 2 pm. I usually have about 400 calories in each meal (I have a 1400 cal total). Usually it is what I call my veggie hash: shredded root veg, mostly beets, sweet potatoes, parsnips or carrots, rutabagas; often added to this is spinach, onion, mushrooms, and sun dried tomatoes. I'll steam this for a minute in the microwave and then put the whole thing into a pan with olive oil and cook it on medium for 10ish minutes. Sliced almonds on top. A variation for more protein is to make patties using garbanzo flour mixed in to the hash. Bake at 350 for 20 minutes. Also top with slivered almonds.

I need to strengthen my core as well. And I'm trying to do more pushups. Two areas to work on for me.
