a little
goes a long way
but sometimes
it is just not enough

a little energy
gets you
out the door
but then
you need
a great big push
to keep you going
and going
to reach
the pinnacle
wherever
that might be

a little progress
is uplifting
but sometimes
you want more
you want the
giant leap
not just of faith
but of forward motion
so you stop feeling
like you are standing
in one place
digging a hole
instead of
climbing the mountain

a little respect
does wonders
for a bruised ego
and restless heart
but sometimes
you just need
that extra
gratitude
from someone
who cares
because your
just never
really sure
that they
even notice
all that you do
and all that you give
every single day
and well,
it's just nice to know

a little giving
is good for the soul
to keep us
grounded
to remind us
that what we have
is not as important
as what
we give away
but sometimes
you have to give
a lot more
of yourself
of your time
to really make
a difference
in your own life
and perhaps
in someone else's life
fur surely
that's the gift
of true giving

a little cry
just a few
little tears
is sometimes
all we need
to feel
to feel good
to feel relief
from the pressures
bottled deep
in our gut
but great big tears
have their place too
when you just
have to let go
of the crisis
in your heart
buried by fears
that need
to be heard
or they
will crumble you
from the inside, out.


just a little doubt
is sometimes
just a little too much
just enough
to change
strength
into weakness
and turn our fears
into earthquakes
that rock our world
and push us over
the edge
back to the dark side
filled with ghosts
of failures past
and diet blunders
and we feel
as if there's
no way back

doubt, yes doubt
even in small doses
can do that
to us all

but there is hope
more than a little hope
that drives me forward
that stands me tall
that fights those demons
and keeps me from
letting all those little
doubts creep into my head
and do their damage dance
on my tiny little pin
that i stand on every day

because this hope
sees a bright future
this hope knows
the best of me
is yet to come
this hope,
born of a
destructive past
keeps me
from turning back
and letting all those
little things
stop me
from getting
to the place
i truly belong

tomorrow
a healthy tomorrow
i hope,
i know
it is there
like the brass ring
it is mine for the taking
and i will never
stop trying
and i will never
let go
when it is mine
and someday
it will be mine
