Tuesday, Mar 4 2008 - Guillan Barre Syndrome

View LYNNABEL's food & exercise for this day

My mother has been diagnosed with Guillan Barre Syndrome. "He's calling it that for now" is what my father said that the doctor said, which leads me to believe they are hoping that is what it is, but aren't 100% convinced. I only had courage to look at one website describing it, and since it didn't seem fatal if treated in time with immuoglobulin, I'm not researching it any further.

She is the hospital, in a lot of pain. I spoke with her this morning and it looks likes she'll be there for another 5 days or so, and then at home.

Ellen and I are going to fly to OKC to see her on Sunday, coming back on Thursday. Because the of the short notice, a direct flight is beyond my means financially, so I need lots of good thoughts for the layover in Chicago on the way there and back with a 2.5 month old. I think it will be fine. Ellen doesn't really care where she is, at this point. Its just getting to the airport and the luggage and stroller and carseat, yadda yadda.

Steve is supportive, which technically he should be, but he worries so much when we travel that I was concerned it would be A Big Deal. Fortunately, it isn't.

I'm so thankful I have next week off of work to do this. Of course, my mother would be my priority over my job, but my new job has already waited months for me to start. I'd hate to have to ask them to wait longer.

Ellen is a joy. Truly. And I really think she is brilliant. She is cooing at us - to communicate. Its amazing. Will made noise, but I always felt like he was making noise to hear himself more than anything. Ellen is trying to talk TO us. She has these fat rolly thighs that I just love to kiss, and this square little bottom. She has long fingers and toes. And those dimples. Ahh.

Thoughts and prayers to you and your family, Lynn. I'm so glad you're able to visit your Mom with Ellen. Family is such good medicine! Like everyone else, I think pictures of those dimples and thighs are in order! Take care of yourself especially during times of stress.

Allan's cousin had GB and it was horrible for a while, but she made a complete recovery. Mom will too, I just know it. And Courtney's right -- those dimples will be the BEST medicine. So glad you can go to be with her, and the rest of the family. Keep us posted; we'll be wondering about you all.

Lynnie, thinking of you and Ellen as you travel to see Mom. Those little fingers, toes, and dimples will do Mom worlds of good, I know. For what it's worth, one of our denom's star preachers (the star, really), was diagnosed with G-B about, 12-14 years ago. He was early 60s then. To this day, the man is going great guns, travels, preaches, and is quite the healthy and active gent! All will be well ... praying for you all ...
