“What is your favorite physical characteristic (face or body)? Describe a time you felt proud of that feature.”

Although I have a number of characteristics that I like, I think my eyes are my favorite. They are green, especially when I wear green. I like them because that color isn’t common, somehow I feel it sets me apart. I’ve received a number of compliments on my eyes, so I’m sure that’s a big part of the reason that I think of them as my favorite. I don’t like that that is a driving force behind why I like my eyes. I want to separate my sense of my self-worth from what other people think. If I do that, then body parts like my uterus come to mind. Obviously it held and nurtured my children before they were born, and since two were born healthy, that makes me proud of my body for helping to make them that way.

I saw a quote the other day that I really, really like. It is: “The most revolutionary thing a woman can do is not explain herself (Glennon Doyle).” I’m not sure how this relates to what I’ve said above, but it feels connected to me. Its not the same thing, since the quote is about “doing” and the journal prompt isn’t. Maybe then I’ll say, I like my calves, and my thighs, since they worked so hard to help me take up running for a few years. Sometimes, I really like my mind. It did the amazing thing of graduating top of my law school class. It also loves humor, so I find a lot of things funny, and I laugh a lot.

Maybe I’ll leave things there. Journaling is something I want to do. I used to do so much of it. I’m sure it got me through some hard times. It feels awkward right now, but that’s okay.

 I think you should love all of you just because it's the only you you've got.

Not explaining myself is a big thing. My therapist said I have a tendency to always explain myself. She's right but it's a hard habit to break.
